Who is the creator of The MBS Connection?
The initial question I ask anyone upon meeting them for the first time, whether it be a new patient or someone I am looking to work with on a future project is quite simple: Who are you? What makes you…you? Therefore, I think it is only fair that I give you some insight on who Pam Stilwell-Boon really is and how The MBS Connection came to fruition.
Professionally, I am currently an Osteopath and Registered Massage Therapist in my own clinic located in Shediac, New Brunswick. I have an honours degree in Psychology and Kinesiology from Université de Moncton as well as a Masters in Kinesiology from Dalhousie University. I also graduated from the Registered Massage Therapy program from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and obtained my diploma in Osteopathy from Canadian College of Osteopathy.
The path that lead me to where I am today hasn’t always been an easy one, but it was clear from an early age that health, wellness and fitness would be part of my lifelong journey. As a child, I was diagnosed with asthma, which made exercising very challenging and although I loved taking part in sports, I battled with weight issues and overeating for years, so unfortunately, I wasn’t thriving in many physical activities. This resulted in me becoming very shy and reserved; an easy target for bullying throughout my high school years. I often felt like an outsider, included when it was convenient for others yet never truly respected as a person other than by my small circle of true friends.
Once I graduated from high school, I decided that it was time to turn over a new leaf; I wanted to be healthy, feel good and actually learn to love myself. My journey to health started off with me following workout videos in my basement, gradually going to the gym, moving to Toronto to study massage therapy, training for my first fitness competition, taking part in many competitions throughout Canada and the United States, becoming a certified fitness instructor as well as a personal trainer. The fitness world became my life. However, this came at a cost. I became obsessed with being skinny. I exercised too much, took supplements to lose weight, became bulimic and started to become a very unhappy and judgmental person. Although I now looked fit, I was right back where I was as a teenager; unhealthy and not loving who I was. That’s when I hit rock bottom and realized; now’s the time to wake up and find balance in my life.
An unexpected job opportunity as a Pharmaceutical Representative brought me back home from Toronto and although I now had a busy day job, I kept practicing massage therapy in the evenings, teaching numerous classes at the gym and eventually also taking on the role as the Group Exercise Manager at Goodlife Fitness. This, along with being a wife and a mom to two beautiful daughters, kept me extremely busy. I quickly recognized that being in pharmaceuticals wasn’t at all aligning with my core values and beliefs. I knew that I wanted to help heal people naturally, not push medication into a broken medical system. So, when I discovered the world of Osteopathy one faithful day, I knew this would be the next step in my journey. Over the next 5 years, I continued to work as a rep while studying Osteopathy on the side. One day, to the surprise of my family and my employer, I finally took the leap and quit my job; following what my intuition had been guiding me to do for years. I put my trust in the universe and started working full time as a Massage Therapist and Osteopath in my clinic; a decision that has been nothing but rewarding. When you do what you love, when you follow your intuition, when you put your energy into helping people; that’s when you start to thrive as a person and that’s when you can truly love yourself.
I love being an osteopath, an energy healer and a fitness professional. However, for some time now I’ve been guided to create a community in which we can all come together to help each other become the best versions of ourselves. I want to help you on your path to a healthy and happy life, enabling you to really love yourself. I believe that when we love ourselves, that’s when we can also truly love others and that’s when we start creating a better world for each other.
This is why I founded The MBS Wellness Program. I want to help empower you to become who you deserve to be, in mind, body and spirit. I invite you to join me on this new journey and see for yourself just how powerful you can be.
